Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist: An In-Depth Review

Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist combines light hydration along with several research-backed antioxidants, including vitamin C, green tea, and resveratrol.

These powerful antioxidants are recommended by skin care professionals to help correct and prevent signs of aging that can start to show up as early as our 20’s. Signs that I know I want to avoid, like rough skin texture, dark spots, and fine lines.

After using this product for several months, I love it!

So let’s take a closer look at what makes this a great choice.

First things first, what exactly is a “hydrating mist”?

In this case, it’s a liquid with a very lightweight, watery consistency.  I would classify it as a toner in terms of common skincare products.  Of course, toners are certainly not a must-have in your skincare routine. I wrote an article here on how often to use toner and whether you really even need one. Check it out to find out if toner is necessary for your skin type.

For those of us skincare addicts who are serious about taking care of our skin, toner is a great way to add extra moisture, antioxidants, and skin-calming ingredients to our routine.

Anti-Aging Tip: Antioxidants are one of the best weapons against aging skin. Check out my article here about green tea, one of the most powerful antioxidants in skincare.

I can’t emphasize enough how important antioxidants are in fighting the signs of aging skin. Antioxidants fight free radical damage from sources such as pollution, UV rays, and cigarette smoke. They help prevent and reduce the signs of aging such as dark spots and fine lines by neutralizing free radicals.

Who is Mad Hippie?

Mad Hippie is a vegan, cruelty-free skincare brand. They offer natural skincare products without artificial fragrances and dyes. In addition to this mist, I’m a huge fan of their Vitamin C Serum and Antioxidant Facial Oil (reviews coming soon). Mad Hippie offers a range of products including exfoliants, sunscreens, and moisturizers. All of them contain effective ingredients at reasonable price points.  You can check out their website here.

Mad Hippie donates $1 of every website sale to conservation groups such as Save The Elephants and Oceana. They also partner with Terracycle for container recycling. Just sign up on the Terracycle website and you’ll receive a prepaid envelope to send in your empty packaging.

How To Use Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist

The Hydrating Mist is packaged in a dark-tinted spray bottle to protect the antioxidants from light. Light and air will degrade most antioxidants quickly so I appreciate this bottle keeping the ingredients fresh longer. The sprayer sprays evenly and has never clogged on the two bottles I’ve gone through.

To apply I spray 3 pumps into my hand and pat them onto my face gently. The consistency is very watery and it has a slightly floral, herbal scent that dissipates quickly.

You can use it anytime to give your skin a boost of hydration, but it works best immediately after cleansing in morning and evening skincare routines. I follow it up with an antioxidant serum and sunscreen in the morning and with a retinoid and moisturizer in the evening.

In the summer this toner serves as the only moisturizer I need in my morning routine. If you have drier skin you may not find it hydrating enough and will want to use a moisturizer as well.

During winter I think most skin types will need more moisture than this provides. Mad Hippie offers a face cream I really like that layers well under sunscreen and is packed with antioxidants and peptides for healthy skin.

Ingredients

Mad Hippie includes a ton of impressive ingredients in this mist.  It contains a wide variety of antioxidants such as vitamin C (in the sodium ascorbyl phosphate form), ferulic acid, and vitis vinifera. Glycerin and hyaluronic acid provide moisture and green and white teas are great for soothing irritated skin.

The only ingredient that concerned me is lime extract, as citrus extracts can be irritating for sensitive skin. However, Mad Hippie clarifies on their website that by steam distilling the extracts, the irritating compounds are removed. I have to say I agree as I’ve never experienced any irritation with this product.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate), Glycerin, Sodium PCA, White Tea (Camellia Sinensis Extract), Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate), Ferulic Acid, Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract), Hesperidin, Grape Seed Extract (Vitis Vinifera), Ginkgo Biloba Extract, Pomegranate Seed (Punica Granatum Seed Extract), Resveratrol, Phenethyl Alcohol, Steam Distilled Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia Extract), Sorbitan Oleate Decylglucoside Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Beta-Glucan, N-Acetyl D Glucosamine, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, White Pine (Pinus Stobus Bark Extract), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Japanese Pagoda Tree (Sophora Japonica Fruit Extract), Milk Thistle (Silybum Marianum Fruit Extract), Alpha Lipoic Acid

Where to Purchase

Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist can be purchased online from Amazon here and on the Mad Hippie website. It’s available in physical stores at Ulta and Whole Foods. Mad Hippie has a list of authorized physical and online sellers on its website.

While a little pricier than some drugstore toners, I think this is a fair price point considering the bottle’s impressive ingredient list and size. One bottle lasts me about 3 to 4 months.

Final Thoughts on Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist

Overall, I highly recommend the Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist for all skin types. For those who prefer a simple routine, toners aren’t necessary. But if you’re looking to add an extra layer of skin-protecting antioxidants, this is a great choice to add to your routine.
